Dreaming of Disney

Now that I have my first April weekend trip behind me, I'm officially dreaming of Disney.

I leave Friday morning. The itinerary is hush-hush, which is fueling the excitement. Today I did a little travel research. I'm usually a research junkie when it comes to vacations, but since the schedule is out of my hands, I'm just going with the flow.

Here's what I do know:

I arrive into Orlando at 10:30 a.m. A Disney "cast member" will meet me at baggage claim and take me to our hotel. We are staying at the Disney Beach Club Resort. Our first event is at 4:30 p.m., but I'll have free time until then. Right now, my plan is to relax by the pool. I think that we are having dinner at Epcot Friday night, but other than that, we won't know our itinerary until we check in, at which time we'll get the schedule. See, isn't that exciting?

I also know that we will finish by noon on Sunday and then have free time and a park pass. I don't leave until 6pm, so I will have a few hours. That will give me the ability to fill in the gaps of the weekend with whatever I want to do.

My parents took me to Disney World in 1979. I'm sure that my memories are mostly fueled by photo albums, but I know it was a good time. I went to Disney Land with my grandparents sometime between 1984 and 1986. I remember riding Space Mountain, which seemed so scary to me years before at Disney World, and wondering why I thought it was so scary. I'd like to ride it again and see what I think.

I know that most of you (along with everyone else in the free world) have been to Disney World in the last twenty years, so you will have more updated information for me. So I'm asking your opinion:

When I clicked over to the Disney site and watched the intro video, my heart beat a little faster. I'm happy to be a part of the Year of a Million Dreams. Here are some of the links I found that hyped me up about being there without my kiddos.

On my solo adult trip to Disney, what should I be sure to see or do? Rides? Shows? Tell me about it.

I must be the last woman in Rhode Island who has never been to Disney World. My parents took me to Disneyland when I was 3. I remember getting on a bus and having to be very quiet. Yeah, that was money well spent. I can't wait to hear all about your trip. Not having a plan ahead of time would make me nervous. = )

Enjoy your trip. Sometimes it's fun to just be a kid again, to let make believe take us away. :)

Oh, fun - have a great time! If you happen to see any info on Disney Cruise tips, I'd love to hear about your findings. My extended family is splurging on a Disney cruise next February, so I've been saving moolah and researching frugal tips for the vacation.

Oh, it's so exciting!! The resort looks very nice and I'm sure they have a wonderful weekend planned for all of you.

I've only been to WDW with kids, so I don't have much advice re: going as a "grown-up." :) Because we mostly stuck to rides, I'd probably try to see some more shows if I were there sans kids. I've heard the Lion King show at Animal Kingdom is great.

Can't wait to hear all about the trip!

I LOVE DISNEY, and I can't wait to hear about your trip. If you are in Magic Kingdom, be sure to ride Splash Mountain. It is my favorite ride in all of Disney World. It is so well done, and it makes me smile the entire time. I enjoyed everything at Epcot except MissionSPACE. I am claustrophobic, and I had a panic attack in the tight quarters. Katrina is right about the Lion King show at AK; it's wonderful. They have a Nemo show too. There are also a lot of good shows at MGM.

You are going to have SO MUCH FUN!!!!

I think the thing that excites me the most is the chance to see Disney as a first timer through Stephanie's eyes and the chance to meet face to facce so many great moms. I feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to meet moms via the Internet and then through my travels meet them face to face. Tomorrow I get to do this with New York mom bloggers and Travelingmom.com (Kim). What's really funny though is seeing someone's mouth move when they talk to you when all you've ever heard is their words without lips moving. I'm not sure I described it correctly but you get the idea. As a native Floridian, I'm happy to have you visit our state!
Travel safe.

Can't WAIT! Can't WAIT! Can't WAIT! The best ride at Epcot (in my opinion, keeping in mind I don't do roller coasters) is Soarin'. WE MUST DO THAT RIDE!

Also. The evening fireworks at Magic Kingdom are a MUST. I'm assuming they have that planned for us. If not, I'll be so sad.

You will have a great time! There are so many fun attractions in Orlando. I have been working with SeaWorld's new water park Aquatica, you should go there, it just opened and there are so many fun attractions - 36 water slides, a huge beach, lazy rivers and lagoons. There is more information on the park here - http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g34515-d1016290-Reviews-Aquatica_Seaworld_s_Waterpark-Orlando_Florida.html
Have a great trip!
