One is to get a tallish, rectangular basket that's attractive and just upend that pile so it's vertical and contain it in that basket. It looks much better and it's actually easier to flip through when you're searching for that one paper you need.

Also, in that same spot you could put one of those organizers with 3-4 shallow drawers that are 8.5 X 11. One drawer could be To-Do papers, so you can easily find them, and other drawers can be labelled for each child, to hold their current papers from school, sports schedules, etc.

I am a pile person, but having my piles in drawers and upright in baskets really helps me! (I have one upright basket for the mail, and one I use as a catch-all when it's time to set the table.)

JeanneAt A Hen's Pacehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02244490539003130874noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24945617.post-13443571506347930102007-04-04T18:58:00.000-04:002007-04-04T18:58:00.000-04:00I would love a kitchen desk! Also, someone gave me the idea of puuting all of my kids papers from school in a big rubbermaid and not trying to decide at the time what to keep and what to throw. Go through the papers half way through the year, or in the summer, when you have a little distance and can more accurately decipher what is actually something you want to hang onto. I just keep 3 rubbermaid containers (because I have three kids) either under my bed or in my closet, and put EVERY paper that comes home in there.
Hope this helps!!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24945617.post-45523187152714315792007-04-04T07:57:00.000-04:002007-04-04T07:57:00.000-04:00Looks like a great space! There's just no keeping up with it, no matter how hard I try! I'm really looking forward to seeing what you come up with! I love the cubbies and my first thought when I looked at your picture was nice baskets but not the plastic kind. More of a wicker type. I have definitely seen them that size too. You could even designate one cubby per family member for odds and sodds.

I love how you have this counter space to use and two drawers! It is ideal....you are very fortunate and once you have a system in place (and I know you will) it will be awesome! I have no doubt.

LauraLaurahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15867964298149410340noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24945617.post-41649098952397140482007-04-03T20:15:00.000-04:002007-04-03T20:15:00.000-04:00Good for you. I, unfortunately, forgot all about this challenge this week, and am just now getting back to reading blogs... oh well, I think I'm out this time around. But I'll watch your progress! :)Katrina @ Callapidder Dayshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06502432103160398620noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24945617.post-83729294820391762092007-04-03T18:44:00.000-04:002007-04-03T18:44:00.000-04:00I totally blew the first one too, but here I go ag...I totally blew the first one too, but here I go again jumping right in with both feet. :v) Must be contagious.Susannehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02757963698816530787noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24945617.post-85323627513559059492007-04-03T14:47:00.000-04:002007-04-03T14:47:00.000-04:00Hi JenniferThanks for visiting my spring reading t...Hi Jennifer

Thanks for visiting my spring reading thing last week!

Hmm - I usually tell clients not to let the paper come into the house . That's the first step. I suggest a wastepaper bin near the door so all junk mail goes there directly - I don't even open mine.

Then I would have a different section of that paper holder for each child and one for household.

And then (now you have to be ruthless) you have to go through it regularly. This depends per person - for us (only 2 adults) once a week is enough but if I had kids who brought stuff home all the time, I may then change to daily or once every two days.

hope this helps - remember be ruthless ;)

Marcia
http://takechargeofyourlife.blogspot.com
http://organisingtips.blogspot.comMarcia Francoishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13516774065137063145noreply@blogger.com
